Awakening

“Stay awake, and pray that you won’t be tempted. You want to do what’s right, but you’re weak.”

Mark 14:38 GW

Jesus told them, “When you pray, say this:

Father,

Let your name be kept holy.

Let your kingdom come.

Give us our bread day by day.

Forgive us as we forgive everyone else.

Don’t allow us to be tempted.”

Luke 11:2‭-‬4 GW

There isn’t any temptation that you have experienced which is unusual for humans.

God, who faithfully keeps his promises, will not allow you to be tempted beyond your power to resist.

But when you are tempted, he will also give you the ability to endure the temptation as your way of escape.

1 Corinthians 10:13 GW

We refer to people who have not been born again of the Spirit of God as spiritually dead.

They think and act like humans do.

They have not been awakened to Truth.

They have not been enlightened.

But even believers are prone to falling asleep.

Jesus even rebuked Peter once saying that he was thinking like a human.

The thoughts of the Spirit are not carnal thoughts.

They don’t seek to glorify the flesh and its desire to give in to temptation.

Temptation is nothing new.

Since the first humans walked the Earth, the enemy of our soul has been seeking to corrupt us by luring us to give in to temptation.

How do we endure?

How do we resist?

How do we overcome?

Prayer.

As Paul wrote to remind the Church in Corinth, God will provide a way of escape.

Jesus told us, pray to your Father in Heaven.

Ask and you shall receive.

Ask God for the ability to resist and endure temptation.

He will provide you with His strength by the Holy Spirit when your flesh is feeling weak.

Sin is missing the mark.

It’s falling short of the glory of God.

We are all sinners.

That’s why we need a Savior.

In our own strength, we could never overcome.

The Law of Moses proves that.

Jesus fulfilled the Law and ushered in the New Covenant of Grace.

What does that mean?

It means relationship triumphs over religion.

Following the rules won’t make you Christlike.

Knowing God will.

Jesus sacrificed Himself on behalf of all humans to restore us to right relationship with God.

Our job is to believe it by faith, which in and of itself is a gift from God so that no one can boast.

Evangelism is telling the Good News.

It’s not telling the bad news.

I think we all already know the bad news.

This world is really messed up and going to hell in a handbasket.

A lot of people already know the Good News, but they seem to have forgotten.

Or perhaps they have fallen asleep.

It’s time to wake them up.

Look around you.

Who is manifesting the fruits of the Spirit?

You know, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control?

Those are the people who need to be spreading the Gospel.

You can’t export what you don’t have.

You can’t fake it until you make it.

People want to see real, genuine, authentic faith in action.

This is not a performance.

This isn’t about being entertaining.

This is about changing lives.

Saving lives.

May the God of all Grace awaken you to your divine purpose and destiny.

May He empower and embolden you to be a demonstration of His power and love on this planet.

In Jesus’ Name I pray.

Amen.

Christianity: The Road Ahead

He wants all people to be saved and to learn the truth. There is one God. There is also one mediator between God and humans—a human, Christ Jesus. He sacrificed himself for all people to free them from their sins. This message is valid for every era.

1 Timothy 2:4‭-‬6 GW

  1. Worship
  2. Evangelism
  3. Discipleship
  4. Father
  5. Son
  6. Holy Spirit
  7. Kingdom of God
  8. Heaven

I’m reading several different books right now in addition to the Bible.

This is a change for me since normally I only read the Bible.

There are so many books out there about Christian living and the Christian faith, and yet I feel the need to lend my voice to the discussion.

We need simplicity.

Since adopting a minimalist lifestyle, I’ve seen the joy and freedom that it brings by liberating us from the chains of materialism, consumerism, pride and selfishness.

The less you have, the more freedom you have.

I prayed that most dangerous prayer:

“Lord God, remove from me everything that gets in the way of my relationship with You. Amen.”

Try it out for yourself and see what happens.

God answered my prayer.

Now, I’m starting over on a firm foundation.

Life is pregnant with meaning and significance.

Everyday is a revelation of God’s hand in the affairs of humans and Creation.

Walk a little slower.

Breathe a little deeper.

Sleep a little longer.

Savor the moments that make up the day.

There’s never been a day like today before and there never will be another one quite like it again.

The same is true for you and me.

We are changing.

We are growing.

We are maturing.

I’m not sure if I have the patience to actually write a book from beginning to end, so I’ll just continue to post on the themes listed above.

I consider them the essentials of the faith.

Some would disagree and focus on man’s sinful nature, the Law, final judgement, etc.

I’m a man of action.

I look at what is my responsibility.

What can and should I be doing?

I consider the first three: worship, evangelism and discipleship the outward, active expressions of my faith.

The next three are the persons of the Trinity: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

God is truly a mystery and we must meditate, pray, fellowship and commune with Him to better understand God.

We must abide.

This is where we focus our hearts, our thoughts, and our internal lives.

As we better understand the divine nature and expressions of God as exemplified in the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, we disappear into Christ and live in unity with God.

Finally, we must understand where we are going.

First, the Kingdom of God is the spiritual dimension that is ruled by God.

As we submit and obey, and yield ourselves to be Christ’s agents on this Earth, we advance the Kingdom.

Finally, we are comforted through all trials and affliction with a blessed assurance that our home is in Heaven.

God rewards people according to their deeds.

Instead of collecting treasures on Earth that are temporary, we collect eternal rewards in Heaven based on all the good deeds that we do.

If you examine the life of Jesus and the early Church, you will see the way to live the Christian life.

I believe that we are in the midst of a massive revival and reformation.

Cultural Christianity is dying a slow and painful death as empty religion is being stripped away.

To be a Christian is to have a relationship with God.

That means you communicate and spend time together.

We should be in constant fellowship with the Spirit.

Read the New Testament.

And practice all the principles that it contains.

And live the blessed life of freedom in Christ.

Amen.

The Cost of Being

Then Jesus said to his disciples,

“Those who want to come with me must say no to the things they want, pick up their crosses, and follow me.

“Those who want to save their lives will lose them. But those who lose their lives for me will find them.

“What good will it do for people to win the whole world and lose their lives? Or what will a person give in exchange for life?

“The Son of Man will come with his angels in his Father’s glory. Then he will pay back each person based on what that person has done.

“I can guarantee this truth: Some people who are standing here will not die until they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom.”

Matthew 16:24‭-‬28 GW

What does it mean to be a disciple of Jesus?

It means you are disciplined in the ways of the Lord.

A lot of people say they believe in Jesus.

They believe that He is the Messiah.

But the demons also believe, and they actually obey when He commands them to leave.

Are you a follower of Jesus?

Do you follow in His footsteps?

Do you echo the patterns of accurate teachings?

Many follow at a distance, but give up when they realize the cost.

The cost of being a disciple is everything.

It says the old is gone and behold all things are new.

God’s ways are higher than our ways.

God’s thoughts are higher than our thoughts.

How could we ever think we could know what God has in mind?

We only know in part.

We only prophesy in part.

Think of a human being.

Do you know everything about that person?

Their every thought, action and emotion?

No.

Now think of every human being that has ever lived, is alive, or will live.

All of them, at once.

Hold that in your mind.

Could you possibly know everything about each of them?

Even the number of hairs on their head?

You don’t even know how many hairs are on your head.

How does your body stay alive?

The Word of the Lord.

He is the Creator and sustainer of all life.

He is the Lord God that we serve.

Humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God.

Behold your Creator, who has the power to cast your soul into hell.

That’s not His will for your life.

The Bible teaches us that He wants all people to be saved.

But some refuse.

They willfully disobey.

They rebel against God and seek their own way.

They will end only in ruin.

Repent while there is still time.

Acknowledge the Lord in all your ways, and He will make your path straight.

It doesn’t matter how you get to the realization, only that you do.

Some do it out of blind faith and obedience.

Some do it only after eating the fruit of their fallen ways and reaching the end of themselves.

Some are shown by the example of others.

Some get the revelation in spite of everything that they have ever seen and heard.

Get the revelation of Jesus Christ.

He is the Son of God.

He is the Savior of the world.

He is the King of kings and Lord of lords.

He is the beginning and the end.

He is the only One who can make your life matter.

He is the One we seek to please and serve.

He is Messiah.

In less than three weeks, we will be celebrating His Resurrection from the dead.

He has conquered death and rendered hell defeated.

Don’t you want to be on the winning team?

Or would you rather have it your way?

Repent.

Change the way you think and act.

Become a disciple of the Lord.

Trust me, it’s better than anything this world has to offer.

May God’s kindness shine upon your heart.

In Jesus’ Name.

Amen.
