Needful Things

A servant of the Lord must not quarrel. Instead, he must be kind to everyone. He must be a good teacher. He must be willing to suffer wrong.

He must be gentle in correcting those who oppose the Good News. Maybe God will allow them to change the way they think and act and lead them to know the truth.

Then they might come back to their senses and God will free them from the devil’s snare so that they can do his will.

2 Timothy 2:24‭-‬26 GW

Every Scripture passage is inspired by God. All of them are useful for teaching, pointing out errors, correcting people, and training them for a life that has God’s approval.

They equip God’s servants so that they are completely prepared to do good things.

2 Timothy 3:16‭-‬17 GW

But you must keep a clear head in everything. Endure suffering. Do the work of a missionary. Devote yourself completely to your work.

2 Timothy 4:5 GW

I may have said this before, but it’s important to think before you speak.

Everything you say should be kind and well thought out.

We are surrounded by examples of what not to do.

The blind lead the blind.

There is a great tragedy consuming carnal Christian churches.

They excuse hypocrisy as acceptable and expected behavior.

There is no repentance.

Only a resignation to their sinful, carnal, corrupt nature.

Where is the victory in that?

I’m appalled by some of the things that come from the mouths of their false teachers and false prophets.

Avoid such people.

Who is a teacher of truth?

Who prophesies the Word of the Lord?

Those who are submitted to God.

False brethren are liars.

They say what they think you want to hear.

Rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft.

They manipulate people for selfish gain.

That’s the opposite of the way of the Lord.

We need to repent and return to holiness.

God commands us to be holy as He is holy.

If we are born from above, then the fruit of our lives will be spiritual fruit.

We will be living examples of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

Hate does not come from God.

God is love.

You were created to be like God.

You were created to love unconditionally.

Jesus warned us not to judge or we will be judged by the same measure that we judge others.

Do you want to be forgiven?

Then you must forgive.

People, we are just empty vessels.

What are you filling yourself up with?

The things of the world?

Or God’s Holy Spirit?

Jesus came to bring division.

He divides the sheep from the goats, snakes, dogs, and pigs.

You will know them by their fruit.

Do they do the works of righteousness?

Do they love sincerely from a pure heart?

Are they submitted to, accountable to and dependent on the Shepherd of their lives?

Do they follow Jesus?

Then they are sheep.

They produce eternal fruit that yields an eternal reward.

Do they constantly consume with a desire for more?

Do they like to take the high position of honor to be seen by others?

Do they butt heads with everyone around them?

Then they are goats.

Are they liars?

Do they backbite and lay in wait to attack others?

Are their words judgment and condemnation?

Then they are venomous snakes.

Are they slaves to their flesh?

Do they sin sexually?

Is their belly their god?

Then they are dogs.

Do they clean up their lives only to return to their sinful ways?

Do they consume without producing any fruit?

Are they boastful and arrogant?

Do they make a lot of noise but say nothing of value?

Then they are pigs.

Let your eyes be opened to see.

Let your ears be opened to hear.

Guard your heart.

We are in a spiritual war, and the casualities are real.

If you neglect your spiritual walk, you will fall into sin.

I know because it’s happened to me before and I watch it happen all around me to formerly faithful people.

We can no longer afford to be spiritually lazy.

Corruption has infiltrated all levels of the Church.

If we are to present ourselves to God as holy and blameless without spot or wrinkle, then we’ve got a lot of work to do.

The world is going to hate you.

That’s okay.

The world and its lusts are passing away.

They will be consumed in fire.

The Word of the Lord endures forever.

I encourage you to spend time everyday in fervent prayer.

Spend time reading and studying the Bible everyday.

Share the Gospel everyday.

Remind each other of truth.

The voice of the world is roaring in every form of media and out of the mouth of every fool.

The voice of the Lord is a still, small voice.

It’s unshakable.

It’s unwavering.

It’s a constant stream of life giving wisdom and knowledge.

It doesn’t have to boast because it stands on truth.

Witness the rebirth of a nation.

Have we sunken far enough into hell that we’ve had enough?

I know I have.

The prodigals are returning.

The gates of hell will not prevail.

The first fruits are appearing.

Revival is chasing fast on our heels.

As each individual repents and returns to God, as we each change the way we think and act, as we each take up our cross and die to ourselves, God will give the increase.

To win in this life, you must surrender.

Surrender to God’s will, God’s plan, God’s purpose.

It’s wakeup time.

It’s time to open your eyes.

And do something.

To God be the glory.

Amen.

The Lord of Hosts

The Lord God is a sun and shield. The Lord grants favor and honor. He does not hold back any blessing from those who live innocently.

Psalms 84:11 GW

Dear friend, you are showing your faith in whatever you do for other believers, especially when they’re your guests.

3 John 1:5 GW

This is the kind of fasting I have chosen: Loosen the chains of wickedness, untie the straps of the yoke, let the oppressed go free, and break every yoke.

Share your food with the hungry, take the poor and homeless into your house, and cover them with clothes when you see ⌊them⌋ naked. Don’t refuse to help your relatives.

Then your light will break through like the dawn, and you will heal quickly. Your righteousness will go ahead of you, and the glory of the Lord will guard you from behind.

Then you will call, and the Lord will answer. You will cry for help, and he will say, “Here I am!” Get rid of that yoke. Don’t point your finger and say wicked things.

If you give some of your own food to ⌊feed⌋ those who are hungry and to satisfy ⌊the needs of⌋ those who are humble, then your light will rise in the dark, and your darkness will become as bright as the noonday sun.

The Lord will continually guide you and satisfy you even in sun-baked places. He will strengthen your bones. You will become like a watered garden and like a spring whose water does not stop flowing.

Isaiah 58:6‭-‬11 GW

You can carry the weight of this world on your shoulders, or you can start over.

Is there anything worse than living in isolation?

Humans are social creatures.

Healthy social relationships are essential to a joy filled life.

The enemy of our souls knows this.

Think about the temptation of Jesus.

After being baptised in the Jordan River by John the Baptist and hearing the Father declare that He was His beloved Son in whom He was well pleased, the Spirit led Jesus out into the desert.

He didn’t eat for 40 days and 40 nights.

Then, when He was isolated, alone, hungry, weak and tired the devil came to tempt Him.

If there was ever a moment that He might crack, apart from the Garden of Gethsemane, this was it.

But for every temptation the devil tried to snare Jesus with, He rebuked the enemy with Scripture.

It is written.

It pays to know Scripture.

That way when temptation comes your way, you can stand on the truth and resist.

Often we memorize Scripture passages so that we can encourage ourselves and others.

What if we all memorized Isaiah 58 and practiced fasting in a way that pleased the Lord?

What would happen if we actually did what Scripture tells us to do?

I don’t want to have mediocre faith.

I don’t want to live a watered down life.

I desire the pure word of God like babies desire milk.

The Lord is with the righteous.

He opposes the proud and arrogant.

His favor rests upon the humble.

I’m a humble man living in humble circumstances.

I don’t have much.

But whatever I do have, I share with others.

Who knew a sparsely furnished one bedroom apartment could become a place of safe harbor for some believers with no place to lay their head?

I’ve been homeless before.

I know how hard it is.

I have compassion because I am familiar with suffering.

When my brother in the Lord called me needing a place to sleep, I didn’t even hesitate to think about it.

Of course, my floor is available.

I had no idea what a blessing it would be for me.

Now, we can have nightly prayer sessions and fellowship.

We can dig into the Word and share what the Lord has been doing in our lives.

I’m refreshed spiritually as he gets to be refreshed in the natural.

God’s in the miracle working business.

More often than not, He works those miracles through believers.

Our God is the Lord of Hosts.

We are hosts.

We host the Holy Spirit in these temples made of flesh.

Lord, be my guest.

Have Your way with me.

It’s a blessing to be a blessing.

And think about this.

These acts of kindness and mercy will never be forgotten.

I’ve had numerous people help me free of charge in my walk of faith.

I wouldn’t be here today without the blessings of others.

No man is an island.

We cannot exist in isolation.

Give and it will be given unto you.

Great things are happening.

The Spirit of the Lord is on the move.

When we quit worrying about ourselves and instead care for others, somehow all our needs get met.

And that’s Scriptural, too.

Don’t worry about what you’ll eat or drink or wear.

Your Father knows you have need of them.

Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and all its righteousness and all these things will be given unto you.

It’s true.

It is written.

And I’m living proof that it works.

Trust and obey.

The Lord does not withhold any blessing from those who live innocently.

Won’t you join me in doing the Lord’s work?

What is that work?

Loving others as ourselves.

It’s not complicated.

Only our selfish desires complicate it.

To die to self is to live for Christ.

He gave His life so that we all might inherit eternal life.

Can we not give of ourselves so that others can simply make it through the day?

All praise and glory and honor belong to the Lord our God.

I’m not doing anything special.

I’m just a worthless servant doing what I was told.

Do I deserve any praise for obeying the commandments?

Of course not.

I’m just following Jesus.

He is the One who deserves all our praise.

May your love and encouragement help others see brighter days.

May the love of Christ so overwhelm you that nothing can steal your peace and your joy.

Until He comes back or we go home, be blessed in the Name of Our Lord Jesus Christ.

Amen.

In Loving Memory of Bill Rexford, a gentleman and a saint.

Show Love

Love each other with a warm love that comes from the heart. After all, you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth. As a result you have a sincere love for each other.

1 Peter 1:22 GW

We understand what love is when we realize that Christ gave his life for us. That means we must give our lives for other believers.

Now, suppose a person has enough to live on and notices another believer in need. How can God’s love be in that person if he doesn’t bother to help the other believer?

Dear children, we must show love through actions that are sincere, not through empty words.

1 John 3:16‭-‬18 GW

Above all, love each other warmly, because love covers many sins.

Welcome each other as guests without complaining.

Each of you as a good manager must use the gift that God has given you to serve others.

1 Peter 4:8‭-‬10 GW

I know I’m not crazy when I read the Bible.

It confirms what the Lord has taught me.

He’s taught me to love others as myself.

We are all members of one body.

We should live in harmony with each other and share everything that we have with those in need.

Believers don’t consider any possession as their own.

Now, in today’s corrupt world, greed, worldliness and selfishness have corrupted the Church.

That’s why we must lead by example.

When a believer in need comes my way, I help them to the best of my ability.

After all, that’s what I’d want someone else to do for me.

I believe that’s called the Golden rule.

As in, if you can’t remember anything else, just treat people the way you want to be treated.

I treat friends, acquaintances and strangers alike.

I believe that’s how Jesus conducted Himself.

Now, the level of trust and confidence in those people is different, but my love doesn’t change.

All of my friends used to be strangers.

I like talking to strangers, you can always learn something new.

Jesus commanded us to stop collecting worldly treasures and to do good things.

Our Western culture is the antithesis of how believers should live.

We should have all things in common.

We should be meeting in each other’s houses daily.

We are all one family.

I consider our culture to be toxic to humanity, civilization and the environment.

That’s why we’re called out from the world to live lives of faith.

We’re in the world, but not of the world.

Anyone who is a friend of the world is an enemy of God.

I’ve been to some megachurches that encourage people to conform to the pattern of this world.

That’s the doctrine of demons.

I know I’m different from most people and that’s perfectly okay with me.

As long as I’m pleasing my Lord, I know I’m storing up treasures in Heaven.

I also know I’m not alone.

There are others out there with the same conviction to live lives that conform to Scriptural truth.

The world is going to hell.

People that love the things of this world are also going to hell.

To hell with worrying about what they think.

They are deceived and the truth does not live in them.

There are dark days ahead.

The light will shine even brighter as the darkness increases.

It’s going to get so bad that if God doesn’t burn it all up, none of us would endure until the end.

Show love.

Do it in practical, tangible ways.

There will come a time when people won’t listen to Christ’s teachings.

Has that time already come?
