Then God said, “Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees on the earth bearing fruit after their kind with seed in them”; and it was so.
The earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding seed after their kind, and trees bearing fruit with seed in them, after their kind; and God saw that it was good.
There was evening and there was morning, a third day.
Who is Apollos? Who is Paul? They are servants who helped you come to faith. Each did what the Lord gave him to do.
I planted, and Apollos watered, but God made it grow.
So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is important because ⌊only⌋ God makes it grow.
The one who plants and the one who waters have the same goal, and each will receive a reward for his own work.
We are God’s coworkers. You are God’s field.
You are God’s building. As a skilled and experienced builder, I used the gift that God gave me to lay the foundation ⌊for that building⌋. However, someone else is building on it. Each person must be careful how he builds on it.
After all, no one can lay any other foundation than the one that is already laid, and that foundation is Jesus Christ.
Love each other with a warm love that comes from the heart. After all, you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth. As a result you have a sincere love for each other.
You have been born again, not from a seed that can be destroyed, but through God’s everlasting word that can’t be destroyed. That’s why ⌊Scripture says⌋,
“All people are like grass, and all their beauty is like a flower of the field. The grass dries up and the flower drops off, but the word of the Lord lasts forever.”
This word is the Good News that was told to you.
What is seed?
It’s not the fruit, but it’s in the fruit.
It’s not the plant, but it can bring forth a plant.
A seed contains all the knowledge for how to bring forth life that self-replicates.
But a seed by itself produces nothing.
It has to be planted.
It has to die.
It has to give up being a seed for new life to spring forth.
Such it is with our Lord.
He showed us the way.
He came as a human.
He died, was buried in the earth, and rose again on the third day in glorious fashion.
He was revealed as Christ and Messiah.
Most humans didn’t recognize Him as such beforehand.
Only the ones who liked the fruit of His ministry.
Healings, deliverance, kindness, mercy, compassion and love.
And after He ascended into Heaven, the Father sent the Holy Spirit, available to all who had faith and were born again of the Spirit.
Jesus came to make disciples.
People that did what He did and said what He said.
Just like Jesus only did what the Father did and said what the Father said.
Jesus and the Father are one.
They have the same essence.
They are unified.
Jesus was the seed of God.
Sown into man.
What a glorious God-man He is!
It’s called the hypostatic union.
Fully God and fully man.
Our circumstances are slightly different.
We’re all born of the flesh, after our own kind.
We bear no resemblance to our Father in Heaven, or Jesus Christ our Lord, even though we were created in their image and their likeness, until we’re born again.
When the seed of truth, the Gospel, is sown by faith into our hearts, new life springs forth.
We’re not instantly fruit bearing trees.
It takes time to mature.
One person plants the seed.
They do the work of an evangelist.
They faithfully share the Word of truth in love.
Perhaps it will take root.
Another waters the seed.
They do the work of a pastor-teacher.
They continually refresh us with the washing of the Word of God.
They care for and shepherd the seedlings.
And, Lord willing, God makes it grow.
God nurtures your spirit man by His indwelling Holy Spirit.
You can fight it or you can cooperate with the growth process.
Growth is painful sometimes.
It means letting go of things that used to work but no longer work in this new way of living.
The good thing is that you get stronger as time goes on.
Life doesn’t get easier.
You just learn that nothing can stop you.
You walk in faith.
And where God guides, He provides.
Be fruitful and multiply.
Bear spiritual fruit.
Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.
Maybe someone who eats of that fruit will find the seeds.
The seeds of faith.
Be good to each other.
Love one another sincerely.
The whole world is watching, and waiting.
Waiting to see if there are any true believers.
You must lead the way by example.
May God give you strength to run the race.
A race to win.
Why run if you don’t think you can win?
You will finish the race.
All it takes is faith.
