“Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
Not that I have already obtained it [this goal of being Christlike] or have already been made perfect, but I actively press on so that I may take hold of that [perfection] for which Christ Jesus took hold of me and made me His own.
Certainly, the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. Some people who have set their hearts on getting rich have wandered away from the Christian faith and have caused themselves a lot of grief.
But you, man of God, must avoid these things. Pursue what God approves of: a godly life, faith, love, endurance, and gentleness.
Fight the good fight for the Christian faith. Take hold of everlasting life to which you were called and about which you made a good testimony in front of many witnesses.
The goal of this life is to have Christlike character.
That should be our focus.
How does my character measure up?
Temptations abound that wish to ensnare us.
We must be vigilant and alert.
We must be on guard.
This is a spiritual fight we’re in.
For me, one of the best ways to defend against the attacks of the enemy is to stay in the Word.
I read the Bible daily.
The more I read it, the more the Spirit reveals to me.
We’re bombarded with lies from every angle in this fallen world.
Feed on truth.
Desire the pure word of God like babies desire milk.
It’s fine to listen to other people’s points of view, but don’t outsource your relationship with God to someone else.
Take hold of everlasting life.
The true life in Christ.
The best thing you can do is to be faithful and obey God in all areas of your life.
Don’t compartmentalize the secular and the sacred.
Walk with Christ.
Be yoked to Him.
It’s not a great burden.
Just walk with Him.
He’s doing all the work.
Just be faithful to say and do what He quickens you to.
We can’t do this life in our own strength.
Nor can we do it alone.
Love your neighbors.
Build them up in love.
You don’t always have to be sharing the Gospel with them.
Wait for the opportune time.
But be sure to salt your words with wisdom.
Encourage them with the truth.
Then, when they’re having a bad moment, you can empathize with them and share the reason for your hope.
Do good things.
Be an example of righteousness.
Not for your own glory.
But to be a light.
And show the way.
