Walking & Talking With God

Don’t act out of selfish ambition or be conceited. Instead, humbly think of others as being better than yourselves.

Don’t be concerned only about your own interests, but also be concerned about the interests of others.

Philippians 2:3‭-‬4 GW

Honor everyone. Love your brothers and sisters in the faith. Fear God. Honor the emperor.

1 Peter 2:17 GW

“Always do for other people everything you want them to do for you. That is ⌊the meaning of⌋ Moses’ Teachings and the Prophets.”

Matthew 7:12 GW

The first shall be last and the last shall be first.

All who exalt themselves will be humbled, and all who humble themselves will be exalted.

What is good?

What does the Lord require of you?

To act justly.

To love mercy.

And to walk humbly with your God.

This year I’ve decided to get into shape.

I’m taking responsibility for my life.

And I’d like to be healthy in all dimensions.

Physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually.

We have bodies, feelings, thoughts and spirits.

Ultimately, the spiritual life is the most important.

That’s why we fast.

To bring the other dimensions of our being into subjection.

To quiet their voices so that we can hear God’s voice more clearly.

I’ve taught this before and I’ll teach it again, but I think it’s always good to know how to discern God’s voice.

The way I learned it was by distinguishing between the three voices.

What are the three voices that you might hear in your head?

God, you, and the devil.

The ultimate spiritual battleground lies between your ears.

Who controls your mind?

Whatever controls your mind controls your body.

Whatever controls your body controls your behavior.

We endeavor to abide in the mind of Christ.

So how do you distinguish the voices?

The first voice is God.

After all, He was the first to ever speak.

He spoke the universe into creation.

We don’t live by bread alone, but by every word that God speaks.

His voice sounds very similar to your own voice in your head.

You know, those thoughts you think.

But His voice says stuff that you normally would never think or even know.

The Holy Spirit reminds you of everything that Christ taught.

Therefore, everything that God speaks will bear witness to the Word.

It will line up with Scripture.

That’s why it’s important to be in your Bible daily.

It increases your ability to discern the spirits.

If you know God and His Word, you’ll also recognize the counterfeit automatically because it will go against God’s will and nature.

Your voice is the voice of reason, hopefully.

It can also be influenced by your mood and emotional state.

It’s raw, unfiltered and familiar.

It’s what you think of as you.

It’s your soul talking.

The seat of your mind, will and emotions.

It will probably try to talk you out of listening to and obeying God.

It requires boldness and faith to be obedient.

Our souls are very powerful.

Submitted to God they can do glorious things.

Running rampant in the flesh, they are an abomination.

Overrun by the devil or his henchmen, and you might think the devil put on flesh.

We’re all capable of untold evil.

Which leads to the last voice.

The enemy.

He will whisper, or shout, lies into your consciousness.

It’s important to know the enemy and his strategies.

He came to rob, kill and destroy.

He is the enemy of your soul.

He wants to replace all that’s good with all that’s bad.

But we have greater authority than he does.

Therefore, we don’t have to listen to his lies.

We can command him to be silent.

We can bind him in the Name of Jesus and cast him out.

Don’t fear the evil one.

Fear God.

So that’s it.

I hope that helps you recognize when God’s speaking to you and what you can do to hear His voice better.

Let me know if this was helpful in the comments section below.

And finally, let us pray.

Father in Heaven,

I pray that our ears would be open to hear Your voice.

Help us, O Lord, to be like children in Your presence.

Quick to listen, quick to obey.

We love You, Lord.

Thank You for saving us from this corrupt generation.

May we walk in Your grace everyday.

In Jesus’ Name we pray.

Amen.

  1. Amen. Praise God. Just what the “Good Physician” ordered. The world might say doctor. I say doctor JESUS.
