The Decision

My sheep hear my voice. I know them, and they follow me.

John 10:27 NRSV

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”

Matthew 28:18‭-‬20 NRSV

“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven.”

Matthew 7:21 NRSV

The first step in any journey is to make a decision.

Otherwise, you’re just going to wander aimlessly.

The role of the evangelist, or any minister of the Gospel, is to help people make good decisions.

How do you make a good decision?

The question itself suggests that we can make bad decisions.

A good decision is a God decision.

God is love.

Jesus is truth.

Do you want to live in love and truth?

Then choose to follow Jesus.

What is outside of love and truth?

Weeping and gnashing of teeth.

So on a practical level, what’s the proper way to make a good decision?

First, you pray.

Ask God what to do.

Then, listen.

Write down what God says.

Examine the Scriptures.

Did what you hear line up with Scripture?

Does it conform to the will and nature of God?

You must know God’s will and God’s nature to accurately discern God’s voice.

Don’t outsource your faith.

If you’re looking for someone other than God to tell you what to do with your life, you’re looking to be taken advantage of.

Don’t listen to the voice of this world.

Don’t listen to the voice of this age.

Listen to God.

And do what He says.

Living by faith is really simple, but it’s not easy.

Fallen man loves religion.

He wants some rules to follow so that by following them he can feel that he is in control of his own righteousness.

But that’s not the Gospel truth.

The Gospel says that we can’t save ourselves, but Jesus can, and did, and will.

Our job is to believe in Jesus.

We get to decide.

Is Jesus Christ Lord?

You decide for yourself.

Is God who He says He is?

If He’s God, if He’s Lord, then obey.

His Sheep hear His voice and they follow Him.

The Good Shepherd is leading us.

Lean not on your own understanding, but in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your path straight.

I have decided to follow Jesus.

No turning back.

No turning back.

Have you decided to follow Jesus?

Then pray this prayer:

Lord Jesus Christ,

Forgive me.

I repent for following false gods and worshipping idols.

I renounce all sin and turn to You for healing and justification before God the Father.

Fill me with Your Holy Spirit.

Set my feet upon the Rock.

There is no other way that I can be saved except by the Name of Jesus.

Lord, I choose to follow You, this day.

Lead me and I will follow.

Help me to hear Your voice so that I may obey.

Give me not too much, nor too little, but feed me day by day.

Let me be in Your grace.

In Your Name, I pray.

Amen.

Did you decide to follow Jesus?

Congratulations! You’ll never be the same again. Tell a friend, and enjoy your journey of faith.

Restore us, O God; let your face shine, that we may be saved.
